Breast (mammary gland)
Malignant neoplasm
Mus musculus (Mouse)
4T1 is a mouse breast cancer cell line, established from a malignant neoplasm of the mouse mammary gland. The 4T1 cells are tumorigenic and highly metastatic. The transplantable tumor can spontaneously metastasize from the primary site to multiple tissues, including the lymph nodes, blood, liver, lung, brain, and bone. This progressive process of tumor growth and metastatic spread of 4T1 cells closely mimics human breast cancer; therefore, this cell line is regarded as an animal model of stage IV human breast cancer for studying breast cancer progression, immune response, and metastasis.
Synonym: 4T1-A; 4T1.0; 4T1/WT
