Research View: Kaempferol-Loaded BSA Nanoparticles for Improved Cell Cryopreservation

POSTED ON Aug 03, 2026

We recently came across a paper titled “Kaempferol-loaded BSA nanoparticles as an alternative cryoprotectant attenuate apoptosis and autophagy in Bovine Spermatogonial Stem Cells (BSSCs) during cryopreservation.” The study presents an interesting proof of concept: adding kaempferol-loaded BSA nanoparticles to a conventional freezing medium improved post-thaw cell viability and produced more favorable apoptosis- and autophagy-related markers than free kaempferol or the standard control. Rather than replacing DMSO, the formulation appears to function as an antioxidant supplement that may reduce freeze-thaw injury. Although further validation is needed, this work highlights how protein-based delivery systems and protective additives may help improve cell recovery and post-thaw culture quality, an area of technical development that we continue to follow closely.
